Carol Vella, Democratic Candidate for Benton County JP District 8
Carol Vella is a business woman, a mother, a community leader and volunteer, and an 11-year resident. She is running as a Democratic candidate for Justice of the Peace, Benton County District 8. District 8 is mostly in central Bentonville, but is irregular in shape and includes some areas East of I-49.
In her day job in Bentonville's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) Taskforce and through her extensive community volunteer work, Carol advocates for those who may not have a seat at the table.
Carol’s run was inspired by her work as a foster parent and refugee co-sponsor in Bentonville. She saw, first-hand, the barriers that exist to low-income families starting a life in Bentonville or who have faced difficulties in their life. Carol wants to invest the County budget in areas that will support the people of Benton County, as opposed to building additional jails. She is running because she wants everyone in Benton County to have access to affordable housing, childcare, public transportation and the healthcare services that they need, so they are set up for success for generations.

Sarah Luhtanen, Democratic Candidate for Benton County JP District 7
Sarah Luhtanen is running for Benton County Justice of the Peach for District 7, which covers parts of North Bentonville and East Bella Vista. Sarah is a former English teacher at Junior High and High School level in Bentonville and Rogers. The following is an excerpt from the announcement of her candidacy: "I am looking forward to this incredible opportunity to learn and serve. After leaving the classroom last year [2021], I knew I wanted to continue to serve the community I have grown to love over the past fourteen years. While I will not be serving students in the same capacity I did as an educator, as justice of the peace I will continue pursuing my passion for ensuring that all families have access to resources to help them thrive."
